Emotional connections or reactions:  what did you think of this reading? Did you notice any key details?  Literary techniques?

  1. Chapter two of the beam tree could represent Taylors future life with this new indian kid. She may lose the support of other people and have a difficult time doing things on her own.

  2. So far I think the book is a little bit boring. I am hoping the book gets better. Tayler Greer is telling the story. It's pretty clear that she is strong because she understands that education is what she needs to come out of poverty. She also talks about Newt and how he gets a girl pregnant and has to marry her. In chapter 2 it seems like a different book because it's a different narrator. Lou Ann is from Kentucky but moves to Arizona and she is pregnant and her boyfriend left her. The boyfriend thought that she didn't like him. The book seems a little bit confusing because it talks about multiple stories.

  3. Don't you guys think there is a lot of detail in this story? It really surprises me how New's father is death. I can imagine what the rest of the book is going to look like for him. Not going to be easy.

  4. I think chapter 2 of The Bean Trees it helps us clearly understand the characters view and especially in chapter one where we can see how Taylor thinks and what she agrees with.

  6. While I was reading, I was wondering if it was that easy to travel with that little amount of money

  8. Many books usually use men to describe the effect they have on the world. In this case, the presence of Angel and other men make no difference. For example in the text it says, “He could be there, or not, and it hardly made any difference.” Ivy also forgets about her husband and his existence.

  9. I think this book is starting very slow and it is taking me a little longer to understand. Chapter two of The Bean Tree could represent Taylors future with this new kid.

  10. Chapter 2 Taylor is on her own for the first time. She doesn't know how it's going to go. It might be better on her own or hard with the indian child so she might want to go back home.
